<p>Roommates, it&#8217;s always exciting to see Jay-Z get involved in the endeavors of the community, and help to uplift his people. Well, now Jigga will have another piece of hardware to add to his achievements&#8211;The NAACP&#8217;s President&#8217;s award.</p>
<p>&#8220;The President&#8217;s Award is an honor we carefully bestow upon an individual, maintaining its significance and commitment to recognizing excellence in service that directly affects our community,&#8221; NAACP president Derrick Johnson said in a statement.</p>
<p>According to @Variety, Jay was nominated for the award based on his dedication to bringing awareness to the issues of the black community, including systematic racism.</p>
<p>&#8220;Shawn Carter has been committed to shedding light on the issues that plague the black community including systematic racism and unjust treatment under the law,&#8221; Johnson said. There is no better time than now, as we celebrate our 50th year, to honor him with this award.&#8221;</p>
<p>Jay-Z has had a great year both as an artist and business mogul. He&#8217;s won 22 Grammy awards, and has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.</p>
<p>The NAACP is honoring Jay for those things, as well as his commitment to social activism through the Shawn Carter Foundation. The organization is committed to helping the socio-economically disadvantaged in pursuit of higher education. Jay is also the co-founder of The Reform Alliance, which works on criminal justice reform.</p>
<p>Past recipients of the President&#8217;s Award include Jesse Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Soledad O&#8217;Brien, Colin Powel, Condoleeza Rice, and Muhammad Ali.</p>
