<p>Hey, Roommates! As you know, Sean &#8220;Diddy&#8221; Combs has been a dancer, producer, rapper and actor, but one thing is for sure he has always been an advocate for education. Well yesterday, Diddy announced that he has founded a charter school in order for students in Harlem to have access to a quality education!</p>
<p>“Creating this school is a dream come true for me. I want to impact the lives of young people in my community, and build future leaders. The first step is offering access to a quality education,” the mogul said via a press release. “Every young person should have the tools they need to succeed. All our children should be able to pursue their dreams. That is something I can impact with this school.”</p>
<p>After five years of planning, Diddy finally selected Capital Preparatory Schools to open a new school in Harlem this Fall. The Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School will be run by Dr. Steve Perry who actually founded Capital Preparatory Schools!</p>
<p>“I’m inspired by Sean Combs’ belief that educating our young people is the key to opening up a world of opportunity for them,” Dr. Perry said in a statement. “Sean and I have spent many long hours over the last five years talking about education and how best to meet the needs of the young people of Harlem and I couldn’t be more pleased to continue this journey through the opening of the school.”</p>
<p>According to Hip Hop Wired, &#8220;Combs and the school’s board tapped Danita Jones, an Orlando educator, to be its principal. The board is run by longtime Combs adviser Derek Ferguson, and also includes Dr. Iyanla Vanzant, Reverend Georgiette Morgan Thomas and Dr. Perry, amongst others.</p>
<p>This is so awesome and so needed! Congratulations, Mr. Combs and thank you for thinking of the kids! Hopefully this will encourage other businessmen and businesswomen to take on the challenge of ensuring that the children in their communities have access to quality education. It really shouldn&#8217;t be a privilege, it&#8217;s a right!</p>
