Earlier this week, Karl Anthony Towns and Joel Embiid battled it out on the court in more ways than one as the two had a fight during the third quarter of the Timberwolves and 76er’s game. Now the NBA has announced the consequences of their fight.
According to The New York Times, both players were suspended for two games each without pay because of the fight. The league announced their suspension on Thursday, and said they are being punished “for their roles in an on-court altercation and for their continued escalation after the incident.”
As we mentioned before, both players started to shade each other on social media after the incident, as they continued to call each other out. Joel’s teammate Ben Simmons also got wrapped up in the drama as he tried to help diffuse the fight.
Nonetheless, he eventually was able to avoid any kind of punishment after it was determined that he was one of the people trying to bring a stop to the incident.
After the league announced the suspensions, Gersson Rosas, the Timberwolves president of basketball operations said in a statement, “While we are disappointed with the league’s decision, we understand the magnitude of this unfortunate incident. The N.B.A. is highly competitive and last night was a reflection of that. We support Karl and will move forward together as a group.”
As we previously reported, both players took to social media to continue the dispute, Joel first said on Twitter after the 76’s win, “Great team win!!! I was raised around lions and a cat pulled on me tonight.”
Karl-Anthony responded, “I ain’t no b*tch, raised around lions cap.”
Joel said in a comment, “You’ve been p*ussy your whole life. That’s why you were treated like a b*tch by you know who. I ain’t gonna put your business out but I got the facts about you. Don’t get it twisted, I OWN YOU.”
