As you guys know, James Comey testified early Thursday, adding some spice to this week’s episode of real life “Scandal.” We shared a video earlier of Comey admitting that the Russians interfered in the 2016 presidential election.
“There should be no fuzz on this whatsoever. The Russians interfered in our election during the 2016 cycle. They did it with purpose, they did it with sophistication, they did it with overwhelming technical efforts and it was an active measures campaign driven from the top of that government,” he said.
But here’s what else y’all need to know about what went down during his testimony!
Comey says that he was “fired in some way to change the way the Russia investigation was being conducted.” Furthermore, Comey apologizes for the lies the #Covfefe administration spat out against James Comey and the FBI; claiming that Donnie’s statements were lies, plain and simple.
“Although the law required no reason at all to fire an FBI director, the administration then chose to defame me and more importantly the FBI by saying that the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader. Those were lies, plain and simple and I am so sorry that the FBI workforce had to hear them and that the American people were told them.”
We knew Donnie’s twitter fingers would land him in hot water one of these days! If it wasn’t for his tweet “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he start leaking to the press,” Comey may have not been prompted to take certain actions. He confirmed that he organized a leak of his memos hoping that it would prompt the appointment of a special counsel. So apparently he asked a friend of his to share the “content of the memo with a reporter.” He describes the person he leaked it to as a “good friend of mine who is a professor at Columbia Law School.”
But here’s the thing about the tapes, Comey is saying that he is hoping there really are tapes and that they will soon be publicly released, along with his memos.
The bigger question though is… did Donnie commit obstruction of justice? That’s one answer James Comey hasn’t lawfully proven just yet. In fact, here’s what he had to say:
“I don’t think it’s for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct. I took it as a very disturbing thing,” he said. “Very concerning, but that’s aconclusion im sure the special counsel will work towards, to try and understand what the intention was there, whether that’s an offense.”
