The residents of Compton, California have a new reason to be proud. A woman named Kia Patterson has become the city’s first black independent owner/operator of a grocery store called “The Grocery Outlet.”
One of the biggest initiatives Kia hopes to bring with the opening of her store is to provide organic produce at a bargain price compared to other stores in the area.
In a brief interview, Kia explains that store opened it’s doors just two short months ago. Though the store is new, she’s a veteran in the industry. She worked at Smart & Final for years until she decided to open a store of her own.
