According to @essence, author Eric Jerome Dickey has passed away at the age of 59, after battling an unknown illness. The news was confirmed by his publicist, Essence reports.
A cousin of Dickey’s also confirmed his death on Facebook. “I am heart broken. My cousin, Eric Jerome Dickey passed away on yesterday,” expressed La Verne Madison Fuller. “Guys, when God tells you to do something, just do it. Just a few weeks ago, God woke me up to text him and say that I loved him. He let me know that he loved us too.”
His publicist also stated,””As Eric’s publicist for many years, I’ll always remember what a kind, genuine person he was. Even when I was a young publicist (that definitely made mistakes here & there!) he was always so gracious. And it’s rare to find fans more loyal than his.”
The beloved author was also a New York Times best seller. “Sister, Sister,” “Friends & Lovers” and “Between Lovers” were some of his most notable books.
In 2020, his book “Sister Sister” was also honored by Essence for being one of the most influential books in 50 years.

The Memphis native had a total of 29 works, but didn’t initially set out to be an author. After graduating from the University of Memphis with a degree in computer system technology, the 59-year old left for Los Angeles to pursue a career in engineering,
He sold a total of 7 million books worldwide.
