On Monday, we posted a #WhatYouGonTextBack from a woman who was told by her manager that she couldnt take off work while her son was on life support. Well, that manager is now out of a job after the text messages went viral and showed how unsympathetic he was to his employee.
According to @WSVN, Crystal Fisher works for PS Food Mart, a gas station and convenience store in Michigan. When Crystals son ended up in the hospital on life support she hit up her manager during this tough time.
Im just letting [you] know my son is still on life support so until he is out of the bed, I will not be able to make it to work, Fisher wrote. I can let [you] know as he starts to get better so that way I can return to work with no problems.
Her manager Dawn replied and said, That isnt how we do things, so Ill accept that youre quitting.
When Crystal argued that her son was literally on life support, Dawn said that she had been more than accommodating by allowing her to change her schedule.
There is no reason you cant work and I will not tolerate drama. End of conversation,” Dawn wrote. If you arent there to work your shift tomorrow then I take that youve quit.
Crystals screen shots have since went viral and it didnt take long for those messages to get the attention of top executives in her company. Folk Oil posted a message on the PS Food Mart Facebook page coming to Crystals side.
PS Food Mart and Folk Oil Company are in complete agreement that this is not acceptable, the post read. We are sympathetic to anyone, especially our employees that have a loved one in the hospital.
We investigated and have found that the situation was handled improperly and without the compassion that we value as a company. For that, we are very sorry. We took quick action and that manager is no longer employed by PS Food Mart. We have also reaffirmed to our employee that she will be able to take all the time off that she needs during this difficult period. Wed like to thank the public for their concern.
