#Roommates, let’s continue to keep the family of #JordanMcNair in our thoughts and prayers as officials investigate his heatstroke-related passing while he was a football player for the #UniversityofMaryland. A new report revealed that the 19-year-old offensive lineman needed cold immersion therapy and struggled through the final sprints of an offseason outdoor workout in May before receiving help.

More than an hour passed before a one of the team’s trainers called 911 after Jordan, who later passed away two weeks later, first showed symptoms of heatstroke, according to @CNN.

The report, compiled by a sports medicine company, claims there were five issues with Jordan’s treatment including failure to assess his vital signs, including core temperature, and failing to quickly recognize he was having heat illness and not properly treating him as his condition worsened.

The report also claims there were no proper cooling devices, such as immersion tanks, near the workout site and staff did not give emergency responders the best directions or send someone outside to meet ambulances.

“The literature tells us that if we identify heatstroke within 30 minutes … and do cold water immersion, (when) we identify the elevated core temperature, that that is best practice. That didn’t happen that day,” said Dr. Rod Walters, who submitted the report.

Walters said he did not make a determination as to whether Jordan’s death was an accident or due to negligence but he did say Jordan’s case wasn’t the usual heatstroke event with the typical outward symptoms.

As we previously reported, the school’s football coach #DJDurkin was suspended as well as other members of the athletics staff in light of the investigation.

The university has since apologized to Jordan’s family and university President Wallace D. Loh told the family the “university accepts legal and moral responsibility for the mistakes that our training staff made on that fateful workout day.”

Loh said he also told Jordan’s family, “The university owes you an apology. You entrusted Jordan to our care, and he is never returning home.”

We’ll keep you updated on the latest, #Roommates.
