<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Black people have banned together after a viral video caught U.S. Army Staff Sergeant <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/u-s-army-sergeant-arrested-charged-with-assault-after-confronting-black-man-walking-in-predominately-white-south-carolina-neighborhood/">Jonathan Pentland</a> assaulting Deandre in Columbia, South Carolina. Residents in the community quickly pulled up to Jonathan’s house and protested against his wrongful actions. Justice came quickly because not long after the protests began, it was announced that Jonathan was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and being held in the Richland County jail. However, that didn’t stop protestors from being front in center of his home. Several videos surfaced online of the community showing up and showing out.</p>
<p>Despite reports from Richland County Sheriff’s Department that protests turned violent, many showed videos on social media countered the claim. One Twitter user called the department out, tweeting, “Since y’all wanna spread bulls**t about our peaceful protest, where was y’all at? Cause not one officer was down there with us!”</p>
<p>As new information continues to develop about Jonathan, the U.S. Army is also taking disciplinary actions for his unruly behavior. In a series of tweets, Fort Jackson’s Commander Gen. Milford Beagle Jr. announced that the sergeant is suspended from his instructional duties. He wrote, “.@RCSD transferred Sgt. 1st Class Jonathan Pentland to Fort Jackson authorities late yesterday evening. Pentland has been suspended from instructor duties pending the completion of the investigation and outcome of the criminal charges.”</p>
<p>Commander Gen. Beagle continued, “Soldier conduct on and off duty must be exemplary to retain the trust of our communities and our nation. Fort Jackson continues to work with and support Sheriff Lott, our local law enforcement professionals, and community &; civil leadership as this case moves forward.”</p>
<p>While being suspended is a start, many Roommates felt that it wasn’t enough and he should be fired. One commented, “Dishonorable discharge is what he deserves.” Another commented, “So suspended means when the Blacks calm down you can get back to normal?”</p>
