André 3000 Reveals An Outkast & A Tribe Called Quest Album That Had Been Planned Out

As the hip-hop community continues to mourn the recent lost of A Tribe Called Quests founding member Phife Dawg, a memorial service was held in his honor last night at NYCs famed Apollo Theatre. Many artists spoke about how Phife impacted their lives and careers, one being Andr 3000.

One half of the Atlanta-based duo, Outkast, Andr 300 dropped some “interesting but disappointing” news on the audience during his speech. He said, About a year or two ago maybe, we were talking about doing a Tribe Called Quest and OutKast album.

Unfortunately the album didnt happen because of personal issues, but the recent passing of Phife Dawg definitely taught Andr an important lesson. He continued, Please people, dont let the time go by. Thats one of the biggest things that I regret now. For whatever reason we didnt do it, it was on our plate and we just let it go.

He also talked about how much of an inspiration A Tribe Called Quest was to Outkast and how they considered themselves the street version of the group. Imagine me tryna rob n*ggas! We wanted to be like a street Tribe. Like a hood Tribe. So I guess thats what we ended up being, in a way, he said jokingly.

A collaborative album with the two groups would have definitely been iconic.
