July is a good month for a lot of things–cookouts, pool parties, all-around hot girl summer tingz. But July also happens to be the unluckiest month to wed in so if you are in the planning process for a summer wedding but haven’t yet set a date, #Roomies, steer clear!

But if you or a friend do have nuptials set for July and there’s nothing that can be done to change them, let us put you up on game! For the superstitious out there, we got you covered on the things you need to avoid for your big day and the things that you can do to bring your marriage luck!

SWIPE through to learn about some of the world’s craziest wedding superstitions and let us know which ones caught your attention!

  1. Let’s start with the basics. So, when should you actually get married? Superstition says you should shoot for either April or June because April was sacred to Venus (the goddess of love) and June to Juno (goddess of  marriage).
  2. To veil or not to veil: Tradition says when a bride wears a veil down the aisle, it’s to disguise herself from evil spirits who were jealous of her happiness. Let that sink in.
  3. Why is it a bad idea to see the bride before the wedding again? Superstition has it that it would give the couple a chance to change their minds about the wedding. But if your love is skronggg, I don’t think that’s something you have to worry about.
  4. Rain is actually good luck for weddings. In some cultures, rain symbolizes fertility and cleansing.
  5. Speaking of waterworks, let it all out on your wedding day. It’s good luck for the bride to cry because it symbolizes that she has shed all her tears and will not have any to shed during her marriage. DONE
  6. Don’t use your married name before your wedding day. I know some brides might be pressed to write out their married names beforehand but it’s bad luck and means the wedding will not take place if she does so.
  7. Check the gift registry and avoid asking for knives. A knife signifies a broken relationship and is bad luck to give as a wedding gift.
  8. If you see a spider on your wedding dress, don’t freak out! Superstition says that’s actually good luck.
  9. Jumping the broom: A tradition that originated in Ghana and initially symbolized sweeping away past wrongs and removing evil spirits. It was one of the few traditions that survived the slave transitions and today it’s used to honor ancestral roots.
