"She Colonized My Phrase" — The Skincare Brand Battle Getting Ugly Online | TSR Investigates

Skincare entrepreneur Jon Richardson says California brand Güd Life Co. copied his Güde Life skincare company's name, packaging, and slogans — an intellectual property attorney breaks down the trademark battle. Jon Richardson, known online as "The Skincare Bro," built his Güde Life skincare brand from scratch in 2020, growing it to nearly $1 million in profit. In 2022, Güd Life Co. launched a nearly identically named sunscreen line — and Richardson says the similarities in name, marketing, and slogans are no coincidence, especially since the company filed a trademark application just two days after he began speaking out publicly. Intellectual property attorney Dayna Thomas joins TSR Investigates' Justin Carter to explain why Richardson's case may be an uphill legal battle since he never filed a federal trademark, relying instead on limited common law protections. Is this theft, coincidence, or something in between?
