Some people get all the luck. A Virginia family who was out for a drive discovered nearly $1 million in cash after running over bags filled with the benjis.

Emily Schantz said she was driving with her family when she noticed the car in front of them swerving around an object in the road but her family wasn’t able to avoid running over it.The family believed someone had left trash in the middle of the street, so they went and picked the bags up off the road and threw them in their pick-up truck, according to CBS 6.

“Inside of the bag, there were plastic baggies and they were addressed with something that said ‘cash vault,’” Schantz said.

The family called Caroline County deputies upon making the major discovery. Deputies are investigating, but believe the mail bags belong to the postal service and that the money was meant for a bank.

“They came back to Caroline, and found out they’d been riding around with almost a million dollars in the truck,” said Maj. Scott Moser.

But how that money ended up on that road remains a mystery to everyone involved.

Now maybe I’ve watched too many movies and shows but I’m just saying, money like that just doesn’t go missing unnoticed so hopefully deputies get to the bottom of that soon.

Moser visited with the family earlier this week.

“For someone so honest and willing to give that almost a million dollars back, it’s exceptional on their part,” said Moser. “Their two sons were there, so I put the lights on for them, but we are proud and they represented this county well by being so honest.”

Emily Schantz didn’t seem to have any regrets about her family’s decision to turn in the money.

“Do the right thing and return it,” Emily Schantz said. “Because it didn’t belong to us.”
