<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Roommates, last week we reported <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/vogue-magazine-responds-to-criticism-surrounding-recent-kamala-harris-cover-citing-capturing-her-authentic-approachable-nature-as-inspiration/">&#8220;Vogue&#8221;</a> magazine receiving backlash for its February cover featuring Vice President Kamala Harris. Many commented that Kamala appeared too casual and looked &#8220;washed out” while wearing a black jacket and Chuck Taylor sneakers. The magazine announced that it has decided to issue an alternative cover, which features Vice President Harris in a light blue suit standing against a gold background.</p>
<p>Vogue wrote in a statement on its website, &#8220;In recognition of the enormous interest in the digital cover, and celebration of this historical moment, we will be publishing a limited number of special edition inaugural issues.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Vogue&#8221; initially responded to the controversy last week via an official statement, noting that the shot of her in the blue suit is also on a digital cover of the issue: “The team at ‘Vogue’ loved the images Tyler Mitchell shot and felt the more informal image captured Vice President-elect Harris’s authentic, approachable nature — which we feel is one of the hallmarks of the Biden/Harris administration. To respond to the seriousness of this moment in history and the role she has to play leading our country forward, we’re celebrating both images of her as covers digitally.”</p>
<p>Initially, Harris’ team reportedly agreed that the cover would be of her wearing the powder blue suit. While that cover is one of the final selections, it was not the main cover photo that ‘Vogue’ decided on. Both images were taken by Tyler Mitchell, who gained notoriety after becoming the first Black photographer to shoot an American Vogue cover when he captured Beyoncé for the magazine&#8217;s September 2018 issue.</p>
<p>Over 1,000 people commented on Vogue&#8217;s announcement on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CKOql4clB_K/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">Instagram</a>. One commented, &#8220;This is the edition I want to buy. Ms. Kamala Harris is looking like the powerful and dignified woman she is.&#8221;</p>
