Lately, we’ve been bombarded with an overabundance of remakes, reboots and sequels of some of the most beloved films and TV shows of all-time—and they rarely, if ever, match the popularity and success of the original. Just weeks after it was announced that classic film “New Jack City” would be getting the sequel treatment, the film’s star, Wesley Snipes, has finally offered his opinion.
While in the middle of his press run for his role in the upcoming Eddie Murphy film, “Dolemite Is My Name,” Wesley Snipes was asked his feelings about a sequel to the film that made him a household name, 1991’s crime drama “New Jack City.” As reported by @shadow_act, Wesley’s response echoed what many fans have already stated since the sequel was announced.
He stated his feelings very bluntly, stating:
“I’m not associated with it, you know. I’m have nothing to do with it at all. I think some things should be left alone…if it worked at the time under the circumstances. And the story was built around things that are current. I don’t particularly like the idea of recreating the drug culture. For what? […] I don’t know. They actually talked to me about doing it and I told them no. If I had a dime for every time I’ve said no. It’s a done deal, it’s a wrap.”
Wesley’s role as ruthless drug kingpin Nino Brown is one of his most iconic roles and is one of the culture’s most beloved films, which is why most people are not here for it being remade under any circumstances.
At press time, there has been no official news regarding casting, plot or release date for the sequel, as it’s still in the development stages.
