<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Everyone has been talking about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock following a hurtful joke towards Jada Pinkett- Smith at last night&#8217;s Oscars. The actor has broken his silence and apologized to Chris Rock, <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/the-academy-opens-formal-review-of-physical-altercation-with-will-smith-chris-rock/">The Academy</a>, and others. In a lengthy statement on Instagram, Will acknowledged that he was in the wrong and was embarrassed by his actions.</p>
<p>&#8220;Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada&#8217;s medical condition was too much for me to bear, and I reacted emotionally,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line, and I was wrong. I am embarrassed, and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.&#8221; The Philadelphia native also mentioned that &#8220;Violence in all forms is poisonous and destructive.&#8221;</p>
<p>As the statement continued, he apologized to the Academy, the show&#8217;s producers, attendees, and viewers. However, being that he won the best actor award for his role in &#8216;King Richard,&#8217; it was only right he apologized to Venus and Serena Williams and those involved with the film. He wrote, &#8220;I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;I am a work in progress.&#8221;</p>
