Yesterday, Muhammad Ali was laid to rest in Louisville, KY and thousands of family, friends and fans came out to pay their respects. Actor Will Smith who portrayed Ali in the namesake 2001 biopic and served as a pallbearer for his idol. Speaking of the ceremony, Smith exclusively told Entertainment Tonight, “[It was] absolutely beautiful. We did a two-hour procession through the state … the outpouring of love.”

The actor began to reflect on just how loved Ali was after witnessing the outpouring of love and support for the boxing legend and shared a lesson he had learned. “I learned a really valuable lesson about how the moment of the end of a life illuminates how it was lived,” he said, “And every day you have to focus and concentrate on making sure you’re living your life in a way that it illuminates the things you want illuminated, and the things that were illuminated today were his love, and his heart, and his unconditional appreciation for all people of every race and color.”

Smith was especially touched by the fact that people of all ages came out to say goodbye to the world’s greatest and said, “It was beautiful. It was absolutely … ‘celebration’ is the right word.”

Rest in peace, Muhammad Ali!
