NBA Rookie, Bryce Dejean-Jones Killed After Breaking Into The Wrong Apartment

Earlier we posted a press release from the New Orleans Pelicans confirming the death of 23-year-old guard, Bryce Dejean-Jones.

“It is with deep sadness that the Pelicans organization acknowledges the sudden passing of Bryce Dejean-Jones,” the release read. “We are devastated at the loss of this young man’s life who had such a promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryce’s family during this difficult time.”

Well more details have emerged on the shooting that claimed the young basketball player’s life. According to ESPN, the shooting took place around 3:20 am in Dallas after a man thought an intruder was trying to entire his home. Jones had apparently kicked down the front door of the home waking the shooter up out of his sleep. When the man had called out he had gotten no response. Jones had then proceeded to kick the bedroom door and thats when the shooter fired his gun, hitting the ball player in the stomach.

The 23-year-old was able to run out of the apartment but had collapsed shortly after. He was taken to the hospital where he had died from his injuries.

Sources are also reporting that the apartment manager had released a statement saying Jones may have thought he was at the home of an estranged acquaintance an “inadvertently broke into the wrong apartment.”

Jones had signed a three-year contract earlier this year with the Pelicans.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Lets chat below
