American Firefighters Arrive In Australia To Help Battle Wildfires

As officials continue to work on rescuing residents and animals from the wildfires out in Australia, American firefighters arrived this week to help battle the fires that have been destroying the region.

On Thursday, NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons shared a video of a group of American firefighters that were met with applause as they arrived at Sydney International Airport. He said, “Coming through, all gathered gave a spontaneous and lengthy round of applause, reflecting the gratitude and admiration we all have for their generosity.”

According to ABC 7 Los Angeles, U.S. officials said they are planning to send another 100 firefighters to join the 159 that have already arrived in the country.

The Australian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council reportedly requested firefighters for help. Their request is a part of a deal that sent 138 Australian Firefighters to battle wildfires in the U.S. back in 2018. The U.S. also has a similar agreement with Mexico, New Zealand and Canada.

Many celebrities have also been using their platforms to raise awareness about the fires that have been taking place since September. As we previously reported, Kylie Jenner is one celebrity that used her platform to raise awareness, she also donated a total of $1 million to various Australian relief efforts.

The wildfires in Australia have killed a total of 25 people, destroyed at least 2,000 homes, and have reportedly killed billions of animals.

US fire fighters arrived at Sydney Int Airport this week, on their way to assist with fire fighting in Victoria.
