I would say almost doesnt count, but the people who wanted to throw their hard earned cash at the construction of Trumps proposed #BorderWall were millions of dollars off their goal, so almost doesnt even come close.
The #GoFundMe campaign dedicated to Americans funding the wall has been shut down after funders failed to reach the $1 billion goal set. Thats a fifth of what Trump says the wall will actually cost.
GoFundMe Spokesman Bobby Withorne told @businessinsider that the campaign’s founder, #BrianKolfage, initially promised donors that all donations would be used to pay for a wall along the US-Mexico border. “However, that did not happen,” Whithorne said. “This means all donors will receive a refund.”
But apparently that isnt stopping Kolfage, who has now created a nonprofit Florida Corporation named We Build the Wall, Inc. and hes asking donors to redirect their money there if they still wished for their money to be used, in one way or another, to build a wall.
Kolfage claims hes done the research and talked to several experts in law, politics, national security, construction, and finance to learn about what goes into the construction of this wall.
“Unanimously,” Kolfage said, “we have all come to the conclusion that the federal government won’t be able to accept our donations anytime soon.”
He said thats why his new nonprofit will accept any donations previously made to the GoFundMe campaign.
Whithorne said that if a person who donated to the original GoFundMe campaign did not want a refund and instead wanted the money to go to Kolfages new organization, “they must proactively elect to redirect their donation to that organization,” adding that “if they do not take that step, they will automatically receive a full refund.”
