Last week the new “Star Wars” miniseries “Obi-Wan Kenobi” premiered on Disney+, and while people are sharing their thoughts about the series, there are some folks who have been making racist comments about actress Moses Ingram, who stars in the series as Reva Sevander.

On Monday, Moses took to Instagram to share just a few of the hurtful and racist messages she has received since the series premiere. One message she shared said, “You’re days are numbered.” While another message said, “You are not the first n***a in starwarss fool.”

Moses said,

“There are hundreds of those. I also see those of you out there who put on a cape for me and that really does mean the world to me because there’s nothing anyone can do about this. There is nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. I question what my purpose is and even being here in front of you saying this is happening…I don’t really know.”

She continued to express the feeling of having to be quiet and just take the hurtful comments she has received. She proceeded to thank those who have spoken out in her defense.

On Tuesday, “Star Wars” tweeted out a statement in her defense and said, “We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist. There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist.”

Variety notes that Moses shared prior to the series’ release that Lucasfilm executives warned her of the harsh and racist comments she could face from “Star Wars,” fans. At the time she said to The Independent and said, “It was something that Lucasfilm actually got in front of, and said, ā€˜This is a thing that, unfortunately, likely will happen. But we are here to help you; you can let us know when it happens.”

Actors Kelly Marie Train, who is of Asian descent, and John Boyega, who is Nigerian, both faced backlash and racism when they joined the “Star Wars” franchise.
